Originally from Lancashire, Iain quickly established himself as a first class pianist and also gained membership of the National Youth Orchestra on the trombone. Throughout his childhood and adolescence the two instruments vied for prominence in his musical life.
Iain declined the offer to study trombone at the Royal College of Music in favour of the piano, studying instead at Birmingham University. Whilst studying for his degree he also discovered a flair for composition. Post graduate studies in composition followed at the Royal Academy of Music under Simon Bainbridge and Dominic Muldowney.
Today equally at home with classical or jazz, he is much sought after as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. Iain’s mastery of diverse musical styles ensures a perfect rapport with the extensive repertoire of orichalcum – World of Brass.
